Sighting the shoebill stork at the Mabamba Bay wetland in Entebbe.

Uganda being the pearl of Africa is almost not lacking any tourist attraction like the wetland. this is protected under the Ramsar Convention, an intergovernmental treaty signed in 1971 in Iran for the protection of wetlands.

In Uganda, birding safaris often times include visiting the Mabamba wetland and the birding excursion is done on the canoes through small channels of marsh-filled water and lagoons and the birds are best seen during morning hours though they can be spotted at any time throughout the day.  Birding safaris in Uganda are very popular due to the vast numbers of bird species that can be spotted in any single tour.

Here comes the shoebill bird and can be spotted at any time either at Mabamba Bay Wetland or Murchison Falls National Park.

On the other side of nature enrichment, Uganda has 17 % of its surface covered by fresh water lakes, rivers and swamps and it's probably for this reason that Uganda is one of the best places to see the stork. The areas around the River Nile and Lake Albert are usually indicated as popular sites to spot the shoebill.
Shoebill storks have been called the world's most terrifying bird (though the cassowary might disagree). These stately wading birds stalk the marshes of South Sudan, Uganda, and elsewhere in tropical East Africa, snatching up prey with their unique, immediately recognizable bills.

The Mabamba Bay Wetland found west of Entebbe, across Lake Victoria is a great spot for bird watching safaris in Uganda mainly because it is home to rare bird species like the Shoebill, Papyrus Yellow Warbler, Blue Swallow among others.
The wetland is protected under the Ramsar Convention, an intergovernmental treaty signed in 1971 in Iran for the protection of wetlands.

The wetland is a habitat for around 300 bird species recorded including the Pallid Harrier, Papyrus Gonolek, White-winged Warbler and the Blue Swallow.

Not only the abouve mentioned, but also there are other bird species at Mabamba include; Goliath Herons, Spur-winged White-winged Warbler, Gull-billed Terns, Whiskered Terns, Grey-headed Gulls, Papyrus Gonolek, yellow-backed weaver, Northern Brown-throated Weaver, White-winged Black Terns, Pygmy Geese, Malachite kingfisher, Papyrus Canary, Northern Brown-throated weaver, Carruther’s Cisticola, Blue-headed Coucal among many others.

During a birding tour to Mabamba Bay area, you can also visit the woodland and savanna trail up to the sand mining quarry where other species of birds are likely to be found.

Booking a bird watching safari in Uganda with a reputable tour company in Uganda is ideal for any birding enthusiasts looking to make the most of their safari in Uganda without any worry along the way. Importantly, the local communities around Mabamba Bay Wetland have been trained as tour guides and now work to preserve the wetland for adventure.
