With its wide range of #habitat types, Uganda is regarded as a hotspot for #biodiversity. Some 345 species of #mammals have been recorded in the country, along with 1,020 species of #bird (around half of the total number found in Africa) species of #reptile, 86 species of #amphibian, #501species of #fish and #1,242species of butterfly.
Nearly half of the #mountaingorillas in the world live inthe #BwindiImpenetrableNationalPark, and it is also a 3sanctuary for #colobus monkeys and #chimpanzees, and #birds such as #hornbills and #turacos. In the #Queen Elizabeth National Park there are 95 species of #mammal, including #Africanbuffalo, #Ugandankob, #hippopotamus, #Nilecrocodile, #Africanbushelephant, #Africanleopard,#lion, and #chimpanzee. The area around #Ishasha in #RukungiriDistrict is famous for its #tree-climbinglions, whose males sport black manes.
In #KibaleNationalPark there are #13speciesofprimates. These include several #habituatedcommunities of #commonchimpanzee, as well as several species of Central #Africanmonkey including the #Ugandamangabey, the #Ugandanredcolobus and the #L'Hoest'smonkey. Other primates that are found in the park include the #black-andwhitecolobus and the# bluemonkey. The park's population of #elephants travels between the park and #QueenElizabethNationalPark. Other terrestrial mammals that are found within #KibaleNationalPark include #red and #blue duikers, #bushbucks, #sitatungas, #bushpigs, #giantforesthogs, #commonwarthogs, and #Africanbuffalo. The #carnivores that are present include #leopards, #Africangoldencats, #servals, different #mongooses and two species of #otter.
